The Battle for Super Earth

Battle for Super Earth, in-game screenshot

With the Illuminate landing upon humanity’s home planet, their full intention to find and kill any living human citizen and to uproot the sole source of Managed Democracy in the galaxy. Reports of tens if not hundreds of thousands of Illuminate ships appeared in Super Earth’s orbit, a single fleet known as the “Great Host”. As a sort of precaution, the Great Host destroyed humanity’s Helldiver training facilities located on Mars, reducing the planet to smolders scattered among the solar system, before falling with full force on Super Earth.

The first terror appeared within mere hours: Enormous Illuminate spacecraft known as Overships hovered above the first Mega City. Superstone National Park, a major landmark and beloved Super Earth attraction, was razed in a matter of hours. Horrifying new monsters descended on the Mega City of Eagleopolis. Leviathans, massive, nigh-unkillable ships that wandered over cities kept citizens neatly gathered to be led to a slaughter. Stingray fighter aircraft strafed streets, killing and quelling any opposition from the air. Despite the efforts of the few Super Earth Armed Forces (SEAF) on the planet, the Illuminate dug their slimy tentacles into Eagleopolis’s streets, prompting humanity’s all-in efforts.

The 20th of May, 2185. The beginning of humanity’s desperate defense. 200,000 Helldivers were immediately recalled, pulled from every front and reserve, dropped onto Super Earth, landing in the streets of Eagleopolis to defend the city alongside SEAF troopers. The Helldivers fought tooth and nail for the city, killing billions of Illuminate in the streets. Despite their efforts, the Illuminate razed the city to the ground, leading to Eagleopolis being the first Mega city lost in the Battle of Super Earth. The Illuminate didn’t hesitate to attack a second Mega city, grasping once again onto the city of Remembrance. The second Remembrance was attacked by the great host, the Helldivers once again fought to hold the city. While fighting to keep Remembrance out of ruins, the Mega City of Equality-On-Sea is put under siege, and tens of thousands of Helldivers hailing from the city dove upon the invaders. While the fight raged on to defend both cities, Administrative Center 02 was invaded, and quickly razed by the Illuminate in the chaos of the several attacks on three different cities.

During the fighting in these city’s, Helldivers were tasked with repelling Illuminate planetfall, destroying their landing ships and resisting their attack on a massive area. Another, greater task for the Helldivers was to activate and arm Orbital Cannons located within the Mega Cities. In order to destroy Illuminate within and liberate sectors of each Mega City, the Orbital Cannons were to be utilized to shoot Overships out of the air and —if teams were coordinated enough, leviathans and harvesters, tripedal creatures that were durable, had energy shields, and fired powerful heat rays, carving streets and Helldivers with momentary swathes. With each Overship shot down meant another Overship and its thousands of Illuminate troops gone, slowly reclaiming Super Earth.

On the third day of the battle, Remembrance City fell. Much to the dismay of the struggling efforts of the Helldivers, an additional 2 cities were attacked: First with York Supreme, and second with Port Mercy. Port Mercy was the first to fall, followed shortly after by York Supreme. The battle was getting dire, with only two cities still standing; Equality-On-Sea, and the capital of Super Earth, Prosperity City. The divers fighting in Equality-On-Sea had done an incredible job, keeping the city mostly free of Illuminate. At this point, the Illuminate fleet had been whittled down to its last legs, and they made their final push onto Prosperity City. The end was near for the battle, and the Helldiver knew it. The fight lasted two days, with both sides pushing and pushing to come out on top.

In the end, millions of Helldivers lay upon the concrete making up their homes. Billions of Illuminate were purged from the planet. From the ruins of the fight, the Helldivers of Prosperity City and Equality-On-Sea stood tall, casting their liberating light upon a fight for their home, a fight that was won, but not yet over.
